Scooby Gumbo is the 3rd part of episode 9 for the Richie Rich and Scooby-Doo show, and it originally aired on January 3, 1981. In this episode we see the gang celebrating Mardi Gras in New Orleans where they encounter a chef who refuses to serve dogs.

Scooby Gumbo

The episode begins with the gang enjoying some Dixieland jazz at a Mardi Gras Parade. Spotting a Seafood restaurant, the gang head to the patio to order up some food. The chef personally kicks them out, so the gang then disguise themselves with beards and top hats to order some food. And the plan works, the chef heads to the kitchen to prepare them 3 orders of shrimp creole.

Their plan stops working after Scrappy activates a diver robot which sends the diver’s helmet that causes the chef to drop their order. Aggravated, the chef chases the gang into the parade where lots of chase scene hijinx occur until they all end back up in the chef’s kitchen.

During the chase, the gang concoct a new recipe for pastry dough that impresses the chef, and the gang are employed to create cupcakes for the restaurant.

My Review

two point fiveI give this episode a 2.5 out of 10.

The chef was an enjoyable villain, but not spooky or scary in any way. This is just a bunch of silliness, which is good enough for Saturday morning, but it does not make for a very memorable episode.

Thus, I didn’t hate it, but I don’t think it’s an outstanding episode either.
