The Bee Team is the second half of the fourth episode of The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries, and originally aired on September 29, 1984. With a story by Gene Ayres and Tom Ruegger, this episode features the gang investigating a farm where hives and honey are being stolen.

The Bee Team – Episode Review

The episode begins with a parody of the A-Team where a crew of men called the Z-Team try to stop a criminal. It turns out that Scooby and Scrappy are watching an episode of the Z-Team in the Mystery Machine, and Scrappy knows his uncle Scooby is tougher than Mr. Blt (a take on Mr. T).

Mr. BLT

We learn that the gang are headed to the ‘Bee in Your Bonet’ Honey farm in Honeydale. Nathan Stinger, the owner, wants them to investigate the renegade bees that are up to no good.

Honeydale population sign

The gang stop at Harley’s Gas Station to fill up, and we meet Harley, who warns them to ignore the Honey Farm. Daphne notices Harley has some weird mechanical parts that are quite unusual.

Scooby in a Bee Keeper outfit

At the bee farm, Mr. Stinger explains his honey hives have been ruined by giant bees. The killer bees then swarm in, and everyone ditches their bee keeper outfits and everyone takes shelter in a dumpster.

Daphne uses the radar of the Mystery Machine to track down the bees. The bees lift up the Mystery Machine and flatten all the tires. Fortunately Sheriff Parker shows up and tells the gang that the honey from the farm can be used as fuel. She then gives them a lift to Harleys so they can get their flat tires fixed. Harley takes his pickup over to give them a hand while Sheriff Parker brings the gang back to the honey farm.

Killer Bees

Daphne figures out the honey is experimental rocket fuel, and we get a brief scene where Scooby is blasted into space. Sheriff Parker heads off to call the state police and then Mr. Stinger shows up. Daphne confronts him, and explains his honey business is a fake. Before he can explain the bees show up and knock themselves out. Daphne unmasks the bees, which turn out to be henchmen in bee suits and wearing jet powered backpacks.

Bees Unmasked

The bees take off with rocket fuel and Mr. Stinger, so Shaggy and Scooby put on the jet packs to rescue Mr. Stinger (with Scooby wearing his Mr. BLT wig).

Bee spy unmasked

Fortunately the real bees on the farm take care of business and save the gang. The sheriff shows up, and we learn Mr. Stinger works for NASA. Daphne unmasks the lead Killer Bee and it turns out to be Harley Finster the mechanic, who is actually a spy.

My Review

six-point-five
I give this episode a 6.5 out of 10. It’s not bad. The mystery is fun although a bit too unbelievable for me to quite enjoy. Everything here is way over the top and not spooky, but still, I had fun with this one and I’m glad it exists.
