Scooby’s Three Ding-a-Ling Circus is the part of the fourth episode of the Richie Rich / Scooby-Doo Show and originally aired on November 29, 1980.
Here we see the gang attending a circus, where they get jobs selling peanuts and hotdogs. Scooby and Shaggy obviously end up eating the profits, which lands them in hot water with the boss man.
So is this episode any good? Let’s find out.
The episode begins with the gang attending the circus. Shaggy and Scooby are terrified by a poster of a lion and rush in where they are terrified even further by an annoyed Gorilla.
Short on funds, the gang can’t see any of the exhibits, so they get a job selling hotdogs, peanuts, and popcorn. Unfortunately, they eat all the food as they stand back and watch all the entertainment.
The boss spots that they’ve eaten all the food so the gang run away in fear. Chasing the trio around the circus, we get lots of circus based hijinx. For one gag we get Scooby and Shaggy dressing up as lion and Scrappy as a lion tamer.
Unfortunately Scrappy leads them to a real lion, where they end up putting on quite the show for the audience.
The gang disguise themselves further by dressing as clowns and are drawn into a high-wire act involving a clever seal. Finally, they are launched afar as human cannonballs.
The audience is impressed, which makes the boss happy enough to hire them as performers. Scrappy is happy at the news, but Scooby and Shaggy run off in fear.
My Review
I give this episode a 4 out of 10.
I thought this one was a lot funnier than most, just because we already know that Scooby and Shaggy would be awful at selling snacks.
This is a pretty stupid episode, but it’s not horrible. It did its job for keeping Scooby-Doo popular as the networks felt that the mystery episodes of Scooby-Doo had worn out their welcome.
Anyway, join me next week when I will be covering Long John Scrappy.
