Hoedown Showdown – Episode Review

McEurkes Family

The episode begins with the gang driving in the Mystery machine up a mountain road. We hear Shaggy is visiting his cousin Betty-Lou at the Shaggbilly manor for the Shaggbilly Hoedown. Unfortunately, the rival family the McEurks have other plans for Shaggy and sends a swarm of bees at our gang.

We find out there is a rivalry as Shaggy’s cousin wouldn’t date Bubba McEurk as he hates baths.

Ah Hates Baths

Shaggy, Scrappy and Scooby concoct a plan to give Bubba McEurk a bath by dressing up as milk salesmen and inflatable cow filled with hot soapy water. The plan fails and a chase ensues.

More attempts to give Bubba a bath take place until Bubba finally gets his bath and Betty-Lou goes to the Hoedown with him.

My Rating

fourI give this episode a 4 out of 10 when taking into the scope of the entire Scooby franchise. It’s not bad, but it’s also not Scooby to me. Nothing supernatural, just an average 80s cartoon that feels like a 60s Hanna Barbera cartoon where any sort of Franchise could have filled in the gaps, like the Flintstones, Jetsons, Yogi Bear or Quick Draw McGraw. However, as a Cartoon, this one gets a 6.5/10 for me.

Still, the I hate baths story line was kinda funny, but not funny enough that I’ll remember what really happened in this episode after hitting publish on this blog.

Side trivia, this is the first appearance of the Scooby Snack since the Creepy Case of Old Iron Face.
