Excalibur Scooby originally aired on September 26, 1981 and is the second part of the second episode of the second season of The Richie Rich/Scooby-Doo Show.
This episode sees Scooby taking on the legend of the Excalibur sword.
Excalibur Scooby – Episode Review
The episode begins with the gang driving through England in the mystery machine. Scrappy is excited to see a real castle.
Meanwhile, in a nearby castle, Merlin the wizard is trying to remove the Excalibur sword from a stone. He has been attempting this for 400 years. Turning to black magic, he finds a spell that requires two dogs and a tall man. Looking into his crystal ball spots the gang in the Mystery Machine and levitates the gang to the castle.
We then get our typical chase scenes, and at one point Merlin zaps a skeleton to life, along with a suit of armour.
Scrappy soon removes the sacred sword and Merlin declares him ruler of the land. Scrappy hands the sword to Scooby before they leave, Scooby hands the sword to Jasper the frog who now rules over Merlin.
My Thoughts
I give this episode a 3 out of 10.
This episode is rather meh, but the lore of Excalibur made it a touch interesting. Plus the castle backdrop was okay. Otherwise, it’s pretty much a forgettable episode for me.
A way better Excalibur themed episode is Scared A Lot in Camelot – and this episode pales in comparison.
Join me next week when I will be covering Scooby Saves the World.
