Happy New Year! Or should I say Scrappy new year as it’s nothing but Scrappy reviews for me in 2023.
Surprised Spies is the third part of the 12th episode of Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo and originally aired on January 24, 1981. In this episode we see the gang getting involved in the world of espionage as they have to drop a secret package off at Alcatraz.
Surprised Spies – Episode Review
The episode begins near the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco – We see a building called Headquarter Bldg., and Scooby is wandering around inside as a man worries about not having any secret agents for a dangerous missing.
The gang is asked to deliver a top secret package for a dangerous mission, and Scrappy accepts the deal.
At the golden gate bridge, they pick up the package from secret agent double o Z which is to be delivered to Alcatraz. Unfortunately another spy wants the package as well and we get lots of hijinks and chase scenes through the streets of San Francisco.
Eventually, the gang make it to Alcatraz by way of a trash barge. Finding Cell 19, they realize it was all a ruse to catch the bald headed spy.
My Thoughts
I give this episode a 2 out of 10. Seeing Scooby and Scrappy dressed up as spies was the highlight of this episode, and elevates my score quite a bit. The password gag was also quite funny. I bet the voice actor had to do a lot of practicing to get that one just right.
Otherwise, this one is more of the same – silly shenanigans meant to make you laugh.
Anyway, that wraps up another episode. Join me next week when I will be covering Invasion of the Spy Snatchers. Until then – Stay Spooky!
