Scooby’s Roots originally aired on September 19, 1981 and is the third part of the first episode of the second season of The Richie Rich/Scooby-Doo Show.
In this episode we see the Scooby gang visiting Grandpa Scooby at Scooby Mansion.
Scooby’s Roots – Episode Review

The episode begins with the gang at Grandpa Scooby’s house. I’m not sure if it’s Scooby’s grandpa or dad as it’s Scrappy who calls him Grandpa Scooby, but so does Scooby and Shaggy.
Grandpa Scooby speaks perfect English and has an appetite even larger than Scooby and Shaggy.
Grandpa Scooby’s house is haunted and a platter of biscuits and an upside down cake are tossed at Scooby and Shaggy.
We soon see the ghost and it’s the floating sheet variety, but with a trumpet that mocks Scrappy’s ta-da-da-da-da-da. We get lots of silly chase scenes and Grandpa Scooby decides to pack up and move out.
After some light conversation, we learn the ghost is great Grandpa Scooby who is Grandpa Scooby’s pappy. Great Grandpa Scooby fought in the civil war and is no coward, thus, he is thrilled to meet Scrappy.
My Thoughts
I give this episode a 3 out of 10. This one was notable for seeing Grandpa Scooby. It was an interesting trick to have the ghost be great Grandpa Scooby as well. At the same time though, however, I just find this episode not really my thing. It’s very forgettable otherwise.
Join me next week when I will be covering Scooby’s Escape from Atlantis.
