Scooby’s Gold Medal Gambit – Episode Review

The episode begins with a breakout at Wholesome Prison where the Chameleon has escaped. The Chameleon makes it well known that he hates Worcestershire sauce, before he stumbles upon a newspaper article explaining the World Games are in town and they are handing out gold medals.

The Chameleon

At the World Games, Daphne has an interview with Chairman Blewitt who is under a lot of stress. He has received a telegram that the Chameleon has been traced to the world games and that the gold medals should require extra security.

The Chameleon disguises himself as Scooby-Doo, using a very poorly disguise I must say. The Chairman unlocks the gold medal display case, for no reason at all, and explains the Chameleon always wears dark glasses and hates Worcestershire sauce. Fake Scooby walks in and Scrappy hands him a hotdog with with Worcestershire sauce, revealing that he is not Scooby.

Fake Scooby

The Chameleon gets away after Shaggy tackles the real Scooby-Doo, so the gang decide to act as undercover agents and Scooby, Shaggy and Scrappy disguise themselves as athletes, while Daphne disguises herself as a cafeteria waitress. Meanwhile, Chairman Blewitt waves around the display case password on  a piece of paper for no reason whatsoever.

Daphne as waitress

The gang almost capture the Chameleon, however he uses a pole vault to get away. We also meet Special Agent Ron Spieby from The Bureau of Federal Detection, who wears dark glasses that are similar to the Chameleon’s.

Finally, the games are over and Chairman Blewitt announces that it’s time to hand out the medals. Daphne realizes that he’s a fake, so the final chase takes place until Scooby crashes into him and sends him flying into the kitchen.

Worcestershire award

For all of their trouble, Scooby wins a special medal, the Worcestershire Sauce award.

My Thoughts

seven pawsI give this episode a 7 out of 10. With this one not being spooky, I went in with low expectations but came out rather surprised. The Chameleon is a fun villain and the Olympics setting gives off some really fun vibes. The mispronunciation of Worcestershire Sauce was also quite humorous and Daphne’s earnestness and commitment to solving the mystery also cracks me up. She always plays the straight woman despite the huge levels of incompetency from Chairman Blewitt throughout this one.
