Scoobygeist – Episode Review
The episode begins with the gang in a haunted house, where Daphne is writing an article disproving the idea that the house is haunted.

To prove her point, Daphne puts a time lock on the front door so nobody can leave until morning. Fortunately Shaggy and Scooby have brought plenty of food.

Scooby finds an old diary that tells the truth about the evil spirits that haunt the house. As Daphne reads “Beware All Who Come in the Dark”, the power goes off, frightening Scooby and Shaggy even more.

Several spirits then reveal themselves to Scooby, but Scooby only. Daphne and Scrappy head off to bed, leaving Scooby and Shaggy to be further tormented. Meanwhile Daphne continues to read the diary to learn more about the ghosts. As she reads about each ghost, we cut to a scene where that specific spirit haunts Scooby and Shaggy.
Scooby finds a secret passage while Shaggy finds the bones of a cackling skeletonized woman.

With the disappearance of Scooby, Shaggy, Scrappy and Daphne go searching for him down the secret passage where they find a coffin full of books, and another coffin with a rock statue inside. Behind a door they find Scooby.

Heading back upstairs Daphne heads back upstairs to read the diary, and is still convinced there are no ghosts. Shaggy goes out of his way to take a picture of a spirit playing an organ, irritating the ghost who takes chase. Their plan does not work as they end up taking pictures of themselves as the camera was pointed backwards.

In the diary we learn of a ship sailing in a storm, and this ends up with a wave of water splashing out of a portrait of a ship. The house also sinks down into the earth and disappears from sight. Daphne, still a non believer, even after being caught up in the wave and watching the house sink into the ground comments that Scooby and Shaggy needs to see a doctor for his nerves.
My Score
This is another 7 out of 10 for me. What’s not to love about this episode. It parodies Poltergeist and we get lots of spooky ghosts. While the gag of Daphne and Scrappy being essentially oblivious to all the ghosts surrounding them is funny, it also puts a damper on the spookiness. Still, this one has a lot of cool ghosts, with mine being the Skeletonized laughing woman.
You can tell the animators had a lot of fun with this one. Some of the screencaps I show only scratch the surface of how spooky this house is. I really love the animation in this one as it brings out the haunted atmospheres so well!
