Scooby-Nocchio originally aired on September 19, 1981 and is the first part of the first episode of the second season of The Richie Rich/Scooby-Doo Show.
This episode is a take on the movie Pinocchio where we see Scooby’s nose grow and the gang turning into Donkeys.
Scooby-Nocchio – Episode Review
The episode begins with the gang at the Roxi movie theatre watching the film Pinocchio. Scrappy is super excited, and Scooby has run out of popcorn, so he rushes to the lobby to get some more.
The popcorn machine malfunctions and a strange man gives Scooby 3 tickets to Pleasure Island for free, and no strings are attached.
At Pleasure Island, the gang ride on a roller coaster and a Ferris wheel. Shaggy asks Scooby where he got the free tickets, and Scooby lies saying he found them. This causes his nose to grow. Scooby tells a few more lies and his nose grows even further.
Shaggy figures out Scooby has been lying and that they have been taken as they have been acting like fools. At this point all three start to turn into donkeys
Scooby soon realizes it was all just a dream, and he wakes up in the theatre after sleeping through the whole movie. Walking out, Scooby runs into the man offering tickets once more and runs off in fear.
My Thoughts
I give this episode a 4.5 out of 10. It’s not spooky, so it gets a much lower score. However, it is well written and a bit disturbing with Scooby’s giant nose. The donkey transformation scene is also quite creepy.
I also liked the twist ending where the man offering free tickets to Pleasure Island shows up.
So while not spooky, I was still bit a creeped out by the whole episode.
