Scooby ala Mode – Episode Review
The episode begins at the Academie Versailles – a pastry school – which is celebrating their 200th birthday party. An instructor named Madame LaTorte is teaching a course when she is interrupted by the Ghost of Chef Maras.

Daphne and the rest of the gang show up as she is covering the story of the oldest cooking school in France. Scooby tries to eat all the cake, but is interrupted by Chef Pierre and they are told to leave. Instead, Daphne and Scrappy try to get their interview with Madame LaTorte and Scooby and Shaggy run off to find the pastry cart that Pierre was pushing.

The ghost shows up and the Shaggy rolls the pasty cart at him knocking him out of the scene. Daphne shows up amidst the chaos and they discover that the pastry cart hit Chef Pierre. Pierre is upset that not only did he get knocked over by the pasty cart, the ghost stole his chef jacket – so he rage quits. We learn that 23 students have already dropped out and the school is on the verge of bankruptcy.
We learn that the ghost Chef Maras was the founder of the school and started haunting the building when they re-opened his private banquet room for the first time in 200 years.
We then meet chef Gustav, who Madame LaTorte barks orders at.
The gang split up with Daphne going her own way to find the ghost and the Scrappy descending down a dumb waiter to search for the ghost on his own. Scooby and Shaggy pull the dumb waiter back up and are surprised by the ghost.

Scrappy ends up in a room which Daphne unlocks and on the floor they find Pierre’s chef jacket. We also find setup plans of the banquet room and phosphorous paint. Upstairs, Scooby and Shaggy are still dealing with the ghost as they try to get their hands on more pastries.
As a banquet is occurring, Daphne finds a clue and is about to interrupt the banquet when Scooby and Shaggy are chased through the banquet room and launched off a gelatin dessert into a secret panel which causes dozens of paintings to fall upon the ghost trapping him.

Daphne realizes a glowing onion was the smoking gun as Chef Gustav was seen with onions earlier. Gustav tried to throw them off his trail by stealing Pierre’s jacket but there was no way Daphne would fall for that with her superior sleuthing skills.

My Score
I give this episode a 6 out of 10. It’s a very fun episode with a not so creepy ghost. I do like the concept for this one and the story is great – I only wish the ghost was a bit scarier and we had a bit more atmosphere (common complaints of mine – I know, I know, but I just love that classic season 1 of Scooby-Doo Where Are You style I suppose).
This one is totally worth a watch if you love the fun Scooby-Doo episodes, and the Paris pastry chef school setting is great!
