Close Encounters of the Worst Kind – Episode Review

It must be 1982 and alien fever due to the success of ET is influential as we get our second alien episode this season.

Scooby on a Picnic

While enjoying a picnic, three aliens visit earth on a scavenger hunt and swipe the gang’s food and mystery machine.

Sandwich stealing Aliens

Scooby, Scrappy and Shaggy take chase and find the aliens at a drive in theatre where the film ‘Teenge(sic) Aliens from Outer Space III is playing’

Drive In exterio

We then head to the ice rink as the Aliens check off more people to take for their scavenger hunt.

The final item on the list is an Earth Dog Great Dame, and the aliens successfully capture poor ol’ Scooby-Doo

Skating Rink exterior

Shaggy and Scrappy drive aboard the UFO before the aliens take flight and use the magic of American Ice Hockey to foil their plans.

Thinking they are still on Earth, Shaggy drives the mystery machine out into outer space and we are left with the gang floating out in the cosmos.

My Rating

fourI give this episode a 4 out of 10. It’s certainly creative and fun, but is it Scooby-doo? Not really. But I did enjoy the backgrounds, music, and silly gags while forgetting all my troubles for a brief 6 minutes – so overall, this one is a success. (But I still can’t recommend it as it’s also quite forgettable.)
