Captain Canine Caper originally aired on November 27th, 1982 as part of the Scooby & Scrappy-Doo Puppy Hour, and it’s the only episode out of these three parters that don’t contain an Alien. Written by Paul Haggis (a fine Scottish lad if I do say so myself), this episode sees the gang dealing with a dognapping incident.
Captain Canine Caper – Episode Review
The episode begins with Scooby making a huge sandwich. His lunch is interrupted when Johnathan Johnson the television producer walks in and exclaims that Captain Canine has been kidnapped and the kidnappers are demanding one million dollars.

Scooby-Doo is voluntold to take his place, so he dons Captain Canine’s costume so filming can commence, and a trap is planted for the kidnappers. Unfortunately a red hooded villain is on to the plan/trap.
Lots of fun occurs as Scooby acts out many a classic scenes, like swinging from vines, evading a mechanical shark, and scaling skyscrapers.
Eventually they capture the masked man, and it turns out to be Jonathan Johnson the television producer.
My Review
I give this episode a 4 out of 10. It’s a bit too silly for me. Again, it’s not bad if you are into this kind of thing, but I’d rather see Scooby acting more like a real dog in a spooky setting, rather than running around two legs and wearing a cape while saying ‘ta-da-da-da-da-da Tail Power’.
