Alaskan King Coward originally aired on Dec 27, 1980 and is part 3 of the 8th episode of the Scooby-Doo and Richie Rich Show. See what I did there – I switched up who the true star of that series is. Like who really remembers Richie Rich anyway.
The episode sees the gang up in Alaska where they gold digging and encounter a Prehistoric Monster.
Anyway, enough of my jibber jabber, let’s get on with the review.
Alaskan King Coward
The episode begins with the gang dog sledding through Alaska and Scrappy looks extra cute in his winter parka.
While gold digging Shaggy opens up a secret cave releasing a gnarly looking sabretooth lizard-gorilla creature.
We get lots of Shenanigans and the lizard eats Scrappy at one point. Scrappy escapes, and we get some silly chase scenes – with my favourite being Scooby and Shaggy camouflaged on a billboard.
The gang finally escape by refreezing the monster, and head off on their next adventure.
My Thoughts
I give this episode a 4 out of 10. I think I’ve finally gone insane, as I enjoyed this episode somewhat. Maybe I have a case of Stockholm syndrome and I’m just settling myself in as I still have 15 more episodes of these Scrappy shorts to review in this series.
The creature design was cool and inventive and seeing the gang in their winter clothes pleased Professor Joel (that’s me by the way)
I wish I had more to say about this episode, but I’ve got nothing else. So join me next week when I will be covering Et Tu, Scoob?
