A Gem of a Case originally aired on November 13, 1982 and is written by Gordon Kent and Jack Enyart.  It is part of the Eight episode for the Scooby-Doo and Scrappy Doo Puppy hour.

In this episode we see the gang on a mission to deliver some gems for Uncle Fearless, while avoiding the nefarious Fingers Malone.

A Gem of a Case

The episode begins with the gang travelling in style on an airplane.  Scooby and Shaggy are dressed up as elderly women and Scrappy is wearing a pink poodle disguise. Shaggy has a briefcase full of shiny jewels in his lap and feels like their plan on delivering them should all go hunky dory.

Meanwhile, the notorious Finger Malone sits next to them reading the latest issue of Crime magazine.  Scooby recognizes Fingers Malone from his infamous gold tooth and resting cranky face, whereupon Fingers decides to snatch the jewels.  Maybe not the best idea to snag something, as you are 20,000 feet above the sea, but who am I to judge, seeing as I am not a world renowned thief.

Fingers Malone

But I digress as Fingers Malone has this all figured out and jumps out of the airplane’s escape hatch. Shaggy, Scrappy and Scooby follow, but unfortunately forget their parachute. Fortunately Shaggy’s billowing dress is able to save the day.

On land the gang have to deal with an a surly but sleep bear before they can once again chase after Fingers Malone.

A log trip down a river brings them to Fingers Malone’s cabin and fist fight occurs where the gang lose and are locked in room.  Scrappy gives Fingers Malone some sass, and he puts them on a log splitting machine where they are in line to be sawed in half.

Scooby’s tail is able to save the day, and in the end they manage to catch Fingers Malone with some clumsy luck and a boulder trap.

My Review

fiveThis one charmed the pants off of me.  It’s pretty good.  Silly, but a lot of fun.  Still, I’m only going to give this one a 5 out of 10 as it’s not entirely what I want when I sit down to watch Scooby-Doo.

That’s enough from me, I’ll see you next week for “From Bad To Curse”!
