Wedding Bell Boos! is the thirteenth and final episode of The New Scooby and Scrappy Doo Show and originally aired on December 10th, 1983. With a script by Tom Ruegger we have a quiet two part episode where Shaggy attends the wedding of his Sister.

Wedding Bell Boos! – Episode Review

The episode begins in Plymouth Massachusetts with the Mystery Machine driving down a country road to Shaggy’s parents house. Shaggy is excited that his whole family is going to be there.

Scooby douses himself heavily in some cologne called Ode to Arfy as many of his relatives will be attending the wedding as well.

Maggie Rogers, with Mr. and Mrs. Rogers and her fiancé Wilfred

We then cut to Maggie Rogers running down the stairs and explaining to her parents, and Wilfred, the man she’s about to marry, that she saw a ghost. Side note, well of course she saw a ghost, it’s bad luck for the groom to see his bride on their wedding day before they get married.

Maggie explains the ghost looked exactly like McBaggy Rogers and Mr. Rogers explain that’s impossible as McBaggy has been dead for centuries.

McBaggy Rogers

Everyone heads out to see Shaggy, but not before we get a short cutscene of the ghostly McBaggy Rogers saying that this wedding is never going to happen.

We also meet Scooby’s parents, along with Uncle Gaggy, Shaggy’s prankster uncle, and his dog Whoopsie Doo.

Back inside the house Daphne admires Maggie’s wedding ring which has been in the family for centuries and originally belonged to McBaggy Rogers. Daphne also finds some reading material that explains that McBaggy Rogers originally came to America on the Mayflower with is dog Yankee-Doodle-Doo.

Daphne Reading

It doesn’t take long for Shaggy and Scooby to run into the ghost of McBaggy Rogers, and when they do, he demands his ring back. We get a huge chase scene nearly ending with Scrappy catching him, but unfortunately he traps Judge Jonas Potter, the officiator of the wedding. Daphne makes note Judge Potter also wrote the book she was reading before which is about the History of Plymouth. Judge Potters also reveals that there is a secret chamber beneath that house.

Descending the stairs to the secret chamber, Scooby, Daphne, Shaggy and Scrappy are locked in, but they are not alone, as they encounter a lightening bolt like weather phantom.

Weather Phantom

The phantom chases Scooby and Shaggy through the cellar until we learn it’s all a prank from Gaggy Rogers and Whoopsie Doo. Fortunately, the prank also leads them to the secret chamber where Daphne discovers McBaggy’s diary that explains a priceless Native treasure was buried on the estate. We also learn of  Map that is hidden behind the Stone that glitters.

Crazy Uncle Gaggy Rogers

In the secret chamber, Scrappy finds a plastic lid, and we are then treated to another chase scene which brings us to the wedding where McBaggy chases Scooby and Shaggy while all the wedding guests mingle. Scrappy lays another trap, and this time he captures the Photographer named Alex Anders.

Everyone gathers to calm down and Scrappy reveals the missing Native treasure. The soon figure out the stone that glitters is the ring itself. McBaggy turns up again, and we get a fun chase scene where Scrappy once again fails to capture him.

Opening the ring, Daphne finds the map to the Native American treasure. Since the ring itself ends up on Scooby’s finger, the wedding is delayed. As the map leads to a cave, Daphne ends up bribing all the Rogers and Doos with platters of Scooby Snacks and Shaggy Snacks.

Scooby Snax Scrappy

The gang head into the cave to dig up the treasure and Scooby finds a box which he passes to Whoopsie Doo who clumsily throws it to McBaggy Rogers.  Fortunately, Scooby accidentally captures the fake ghost where Daphne reveals it’s the wedding photographer.

Scooby opens the box and inside we discover Corn on the Cob. Uncle Gaggy makes  a corny joke as Daphne explains the Corn was  a treasure as it fed the Native Americans.  Scooby and Shaggy then eat century year old corn. As the ring is still on Scooby, the episode ends with Scooby driving off with the recently married Bride and Groom.

I give this episode a 5.5 out of 10. I can see why this episode is popular, as we meet a lot of Scooby and Shaggy’s family. For me, it’s just a bit too kiddie friendly. The villain is lame looking and not scary, Uncle Gaggy is well kinda what you would expect I guess from a corny uncle, Whoopsie Doo, well he’s cool. Casey Kasem voicing Mrs. Rogers, well that’s not for me.

The mystery is okay, but this one is mostly jokes and chase scenes on repeat. Unless you are interested in the Doo and Rogers family tree, I’d say this one is worth skipping. Side note, had this one not followed the fantastic Where’s Scooby-Doo I might have liked it a bit more (as I did dig some of the jokes).
