The Mark of Scooby – Episode Review
Attending the Old California Festival while dressed in traditional Mexican garb, the gang see a poster of a play The Legend of the Masked Bandit starring El Sabueso the hound, Scooby’s favorite hero. Scooby quickly grabs a ticket, and the gang head inside the tent to watch the play.

Inside, the Comandante is preparing to send poor peasants to jail for not paying their taxes when El Sabueso appears on a roof. The Comandante sends his men after him, but he sends a stack of barrels towards them. He swings down onto a horse, saves the peasants, and escapes leaving his signature mark “S”.

Camping outside, Shaggy and Daphne prepare to go to sleep, still dressed in their Mexican flavoured outfits, when they’re disturbed by Scooby playing El Sabueso with Scrappy. They tell them to go to bed, which they comply and everyone falls asleep.

We are then treated to Scooby’s dream where Scooby dreams he is El Scoobo and Scrappy is Scrappito, and they must save Senorita Daphne and Senor Shaggy from the Comandante. I could summarize this more but I thought the dream stuff was pure dreck. Scooby and the Comandante fight with baguettes, which was kinda funny. But really, this is such a huge step back from the quality this series was showing and it’s more of a return to a classic Scrappy short which is something I never really liked.
My Thoughts
I give this episode a 3 out of 10. It’s not really my thing and while it’s not a bad episode I would never watch this again. There is no mystery, no engaging villain, and there is nothing scary here that makes this a standout Scooby-Doo episode. It seems more like filler so the kids stick around to watch the next Honeycomb commercial or advertisement for Return of the Jedi toys.
