Stakeout at the Takeout originally aired on Oct 16, 1982 and is part of the 4th episode of the Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Puppy Hour.

Here we see the fearless detective agency being hired by an insurance company called Mutual of Toledo. The insurance company wants to find out who stole the Golden Coins, where the only clue is some special burger sauce from a yet to be determined Hamburger restaurant.

Stakeout at the Takeout

The episode begins with Scrappy, Scooby and Shaggy in the Mystery Machine eating some burgers from every burger joint in the city. They are trying to identify where the secret sauce came from, and soon Scooby pins it down to Hamburger Haven.

Needing proof, the gang get jobs making hamburgers at Hamburger Haven. The owner has a storeroom with a Keep Out sign above it – which isn’t overly suspicious at all.

Looking for the coins while cooking, we get some food gags, while in the storeroom, the owner and his partner Otto are putting the coins in the raw hamburger meat to smuggle out of the country.

Gold Coin smugglers

Putting Scrappy in a hamburger bag, they sneak Scrappy into the Keep Out office. Scrappy discovers the plan and causes trouble. The gang hide in the Burger delivery van, which has a license plate that says USA #1.

The episode concludes with an airplane chase, where the crooks end up being grounded. The gang then hand the hamburgers over to the Insurance company, where Scooby eats the burgers to free the coins.

My Review

fourI give this episode a 4 out of 10. While not spooky, the mystery is fun enough, and the sneaking coins out in hamburgers was funny. The villains aren’t all that memorable, but with their over the top Eastern European accents they were fun enough.
